Desk Height Calculator — Ergonomic Studio Desk & Monitor Height
Calculate optimal studio desk and monitor height for ergonomic positioning.
How We Calculate This
Seated Eye Height
Eye Height = Chair Seat Height + (Person Height × 0.44)
Sitting eye height above the seat is about 0.44 of standing height (British 50th-percentile: ~780mm at 1760mm stature), which puts the eyes near 120-123cm above the floor at a 45cm seat.
Desk Height
Desk = Chair Seat Height + (Person Height × 0.127) − 2cm
The desk is set to your seated elbow height (elbow sits about 0.127 of stature above the seat — ~225mm), minus ~2cm of clearance, so your forearms rest level (≈90° at the elbow) per OSHA/ergonomic guidance.
Monitor Tweeter Height
Tweeters should sit at seated ear height — close to seated eye height, near the ITU-recommended ~120cm — for the flattest high-frequency response at the mix position.
Screen Top
OSHA places the top of the screen at (or just below) eye level so the centre falls 15-20° below the horizontal, so this calculator sets the screen top at your seated eye height.
